New EK – dedicated airline catering facility

We are building a brand new Emirates Airline dedicated catering facility, which will be the largest and most advanced of its kind in the world. The plot area for the new facility is over 32000sqm. Built on 3 floors, the building includes a basement housing the water tanks and a mezzanine level which will accommodate what, is at present the world’s longest airline cart washer. The mezzanine level will also be used for the maintenance of our monorail system, which will transport meal carts around the building on over 2km of track. A bin-conveyor system will transport Emirates’ catering equipment from the Warewash to Production, Tray-setting, and to the Bonded Stores and Amenities packing areas. The building is scheduled to be handed over in January 2007, and it will have the capacity to handle over 115,000 meals per day. Coupled with the existing catering facility, EKFC will be able to continue to meet the catering requirements of the increasing number of international airlines who fly to and from Dubai, and also the massive growth of Emirates Airline.

The pending arrival of the Airbus 380 aircraft brings with it new and exciting operational challenges. We have placed an initial order for the next generation of catering hi loaders which are capable of reaching the upper deck doors of this massive aircraft.
